President of the University of Washington Visits Tsinghua

Dr. Ana Mari Cauce, President of the University of Washington, visited Tsinghua University on June 29th. During her visit, Dr. Ana Mari Cauce was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Tsinghua.

Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong held discussions with Dr. Cauce prior to her speech. The two expressed the hope that more collaboration could be built between Tsinghua and the University of Washington in the coming years.

The Honorary Degree ceremony was hosted by Tsinghua Vice President Yang Bin in Tsinghua’s Main Building. After the ceremony, Dr. Cauce delivered a speech entitled “Innovation and Partnership: Seeding a Healthier World”.

“The University of Washington is proud to be Tsinghua’s partner in the Global Innovation Exchange, “GIX”, because we share not only those core values that shape our respective universities, but also the rare privilege of being able to turn those values into action and impact“, said Dr. Cauce in her speech. “The partnership between our two great universities, and the special relationship on which it is built, has the power. We can bring about change through the collaboration and good will of our people. The creativity that our students will unleash on the great changes humanity faces is truly boundless. “

“Our two nations and our two universities possess unlimited potential for innovation, and together, we are standing on the cusp of an endeavor that can truly change the world, “said Dr. Cauce.

Dr. Cauce also attended the GIX Executive Board meeting the same day.
