Today is a festival for everyone in Tsinghua

The last Sunday of each April is the annual anniversary of Tsinghua University. On this auspicious day, the alumni came back to Tsinghua and fondly joined in the jubilation with the others. Today, April 26th of 2015, is the 104th anniversary of Tsinghua University. Therefore, the students who absorbed knowledge in Tsinghua University years ago all came back together to their alma mater from far and wide and they recalled their friendship and youth, expressed gratitude to their beloved teachers and narrated their dreams and lives.

For everyone in Tsinghua, the anniversary day is the happiest festival. Look, the register place in the front of the lawn witnesses the joy of alumni and parents, spouses, children and it also sees the excitement of the reunion of the alumni after such a long separation. The nametags pinned on their chest are sparkling under the sunshine, which marks the exclusive honor of being a part of Tsinghua. Students who have already graduated for 10 years, 20 years, 30 years… and even 60 years, 70 years were all invited to reunite in Tsinghua, this is the most important activity organized by the respective departments. On this day, no matter if they are elders with white hair or vigorous young people, they are synonymous with one tag—the people of Tsinghua, and their faces are overflowing with great delight.

Anniversary day is the busiest for the students. At 8 am in the morning, the opening ceremony of “John Ma Cup” athletic games will be held in the east playground, which also signified that the celebration had officially launched. Following “John Ma cup”, the exhibition of the achievements in science and technology (“The Challenge Cup”), alumni reunion, the celebration for every 10th graduation anniversary, performances of the students arts troupe, senior academic seminar came on stage one by one…… The alumni, the teachers and the students travelled through the campus, busy with excitement. The happiest people were certainly the teachers who attended and clustered in the crowd, but once they saw all their past students coming back to Tsinghua from all around the world, their joy and happiness they felt cannot be expressed with words.

The anniversary day is a special festival when everyone associated with Tsinghua deeply feel the thick emotions and love they have attached to their alma mater. On this auspicious day, a photographer working at Tsinghua clicked the shutter a lot of times. Workers who participated in the campus engineering construction are ordered to stop and take some rest. All students are also enrolled in the celebration activity. Chefs in the Tsinghua canteens also elaborately prepare wonderful delicious food for the alumni. Then, they all get together to make a toast dedicating this auspicious reunion opportunity.

Reunion in the alma mater not only provides a chance for alumni to recall their ablaze and excited youth memories in which they could feel precious friendships, but also enables them to personally experience and share the development of Tsinghua University. Each and every Tsinghua student is growing up with the alma mater, let’s say this loudly and sincerely: Tsinghua, we love you!
