New Tsinghua Xuetang Ushered in 100th Performance

In the evening of 16 October 2013, Tsinghua school with her usual crowd of audiences welcomed the internationally renowned violinist Pinchas Zukerman and the Canadian National Arts Orchestra. They provided a wonderful musical feast for the Tsinghua audience. This is the highest-level performance seen at New Tsinghua Xuetang and was performed one day before their performance at the National Theatre. What is even more important is that this is the 100th performance held at New Tsinghua Xuetang.

In the first half of the concert, Zukerman showed his skills by playing Mozart's "Violin Concerto No.3". He played and conducted at the same time, displaying his super skills, his deep and unique understanding of music as well as his connection with his band. In the second half, he picked up his baton and as the conductor, led the "Fifth Symphony" of famous Russian composer Tchaikovsky. At the very last note, the audiences responded with their warm applause and Zukerman added on Dvorak's "Slavonic Dance No. 8" for the very enthusiastic crowd.

New Tsinghua Xuetang is new landmark for Tsinghua University. From April 8th, 2012, the China Philharmonic Orchestra played for the first time and now, Zukerman marked the 100th performance. Amongst all the performances, there were the China Philharmonic Orchestra, National Peking Opera Company, National Opera House of China, National Ballet of China, and China National Symphony Orchestra along with a list of other groups and stage performances. These are from national and local groups from Asia, Europe and the Americas. Arts organizations from Oceania counties and regions also held special performances as well as student organizations from various universities. Over the past year, about 100,000 persons from and outside Tsinghua Campus enjoyed these performances and the New Tsinghua Xuetang has become a new stage for international artists to show their artistic charms, their popularity, the cultural heritage of arts education and their connections with Tsinghua.
