Eduard Looijenga Joins Tsinghua as Full Time Professor

Professor Eduard Looijenga, a Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, recently joins Tsinghua University as a full-time professor of the Mathematical Sciences Center (MSC).

Professor Looijenga has been a strong advocate for MSC since its inauguration in 2009 and served as a member of MSC’s International Advisory Committee from 2009 to 2011. In the fall of 2011, he delivered a course on moduli spaces of curves at Tsinghua. In spring 2013, Prof. Looijenga was invited to visit MSC again and delivered a course on Rational Surfaces and Singularities. Starting from fall of 2013, he becomes a full-time member of MSC, and will serve as a mentor for post-doctoral fellows and graduate students.

Professor Looijenga received his Ph.D. in the University of Amsterdam in 1974. He has been a Professor at the University of Utrecht since 1991.

Professor Looijenga is currently a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and an editor of  the Michigan Mathematical Journal and Journal of the European Mathematical Society.
