Italian Minister for the Environment Delivers Speech

Mr. Corrado Clini, the Italian Minister for the Environment and Mr. Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology, visited Tsinghua University on March 19. Mr. Clini delivered a speech entitled “Moving towards a Green Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for International Cooperation on Science & Innovation” in the Tsinghua Global Vision Lectures Series that afternoon. Tsinghua University President Chen Jining had a discussion with Mr. Clini and Mr. Wan Gang prior to the speech.

In his speech, Mr. Clini noted that the emerging needs for a more efficient and wise use of natural resources and a more comprehensive protection of the environment and human health, are a unique opportunity for a radical switch to a new economy: green and low carbon.

He discussed with students on topics including Science & Innovation and sustainable growth, bringing his outstanding personal experience in the International Cooperation with special reference to Sino-Italian Cooperation Program for Environmental Protection, which in over 10 years implemented over 200 projects in support of China’s Sustainable Development, thus becoming a model for bilateral cooperation.

The “Sino-Italian Innovation Platform for Environmental Technology and Sustainable Development” was launched by Mr. Clini and Mr. Wan Gang that day.
