Low Carbon City Development World Forum Held Prof. KANG Selected first Chairman of WALCC

On September 27, the Low Carbon City Development World Forum (LCCDWF) and the 5th Sino-Finnish Innovation Forum were held in the city of Espoo, Finland. More than 50 delegates from China, Finland and Japan attended the forum. This Forum was jointly organized by the city of Espoo, Synocus Group and the Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University (GSST), with the theme of ‘low carbon life and economy, energy saving and creating green eco cities.’
Dr. Johan Wallin, Chairman of Synocus Group, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. KANG Feiyu, Dean of GSST together with the respected leadership from the Board of Espoo city, the Chinese Embassy in Finland, and the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries, addressed at the opening. They gave their warm congratulations to the forum and hoped that it could promote the development of the low carbon city, and drive communication and cooperation between China and Finland in the field of eco urban living, new energy vehicles and sustainable city development.
Initiated by Espoo city, Synocus Group and GSST, WALCC was established with Prof. KANG Feiyu elected as the first Chairman The representatives discussed research priorities and areas of concerns in the future, including low carbon architecture, low carbon transportation, low carbon city planning, low carbon education and public participation. The first batch of cities tojoin the alliance is: Espoo, Kwangju, Kyoto, Kitakyushu, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Ordos, Baoding and Yixing. WALCC will attract more cities and enterprises to join, sharing their technologies in low carbon city and research results.
After the opening ceremony, more than ten distinguished experts, entrepreneurs and government officials from China, Finland and Japan, including Vice President of Aalto University Prof. Jorma Kyyrä, President of Valmet Automotive Mr. Ilpo Korhonen, President of the China Shenzhen Emission Exchange Mr. ZHANG Weiliang, and Director of International Economics Collaboration Bureau of Ordos city Ms. NA Renhua, delivered presentations and had in-depth conversations with the audience. The presentations focused on eco urban living, progress in lithium ion battery research, electrical vehicle system development, and sustainable low carbon city development planning. The forum promotes Sino-Finnish collaboration in the related fields, and is of great importance to construction and development of worldwide low carbon cities.
